We drove to Waynesville after work on Thursday August 16th to go see Granny as she is not doing well. On Friday, Dad took us over to Cataloochee and Krissy and I rode our bikes through the park and then we had a picnic with Dad and our kids while Krissy continued riding her back as she is training for a triathalon. We then went home and I spent some time with Granny. She is looking tired and weak but it was really good to spend some time with her. It will be hard for me when she does pass away as I spent a lot of time with her growing up and she has been a big part of my life.
On a tangent, June Simpson died on Saturday August 4, 2018 and it was a surprise. Mom called and told me and I wanted to go see her especially for Donnie's sake. I was able to find a cheap ticket to fly out to Cincinnati, Ohio and then drive to Central City, KY. On Monday morning I was walking out to go to work and I thought I may take Ruth with me but Krissy said I should take Pierson too so I went to work and was able to get them tickets as well. We flew out around 2PM and then from Cincinnati to Kentucky it was about a 3.5 hour drive. I think we go to the hotel where Mom and Dad were staying at 9:30pm. On Tuesday August 7th the funeral was held at 1pm. It was weird walking in and seeing June in the casket. Definitely you can understand the spirit and body connection once you see the Spirit leave the body. I was able to see Danny, Deanna, Johnny, Donnie, Amy and Robin and some other family at the funeral. Dad and I ended up being pall bearers along with Danny, Barry and 2 other guys. We had the funeral and then drove to the grave site which was near Donnie's house. We then had some food at Donnie's house. Hard to imagine what he is going through after losing his wife. I stayed with Mom and Dad until about 9pm and then drove to Louisville, KY to stay with the kids. We got up Wednesday morning and drove to Cincinnati, OH to fly back home. While we were on the plane we were taxiing out to take off and then had to go back because one passenger claimed another passenger stole her money. It was fun spending time with the kids.
Back to Waynesville trip. On Saturday we went running around Lake Junaluska and saw several houses for sale so we looked them up. As Krissy was looking them up, a different house popped up and she really liked it. We decided to call the real estate agent and we set up an appointment at 2:30 to see the house. Krissy really liked it so we discussed and it had only been on the market for a day but we ended up making an offer the next day on Sunday. They were asking $264,900 for it and we made an offer at $250,000. They countered at $260,000 and then we countered at $255,000. They came back at $257,000 and we agreed so we are buying a house. It will be the house we stay in when we come to Waynesville and will rent it out through AirBNB and VRBO. Now we just have to go through the process.
I hope this is a good decision.
