It was a cold winter day and when I woke up I wondered why we decided to get married in December again (that time worked best for Krissy's brother's family and, of course, it was a tax advantage :) ). We were scheduled to be sealed at 10AM and on the way to the Temple I realized that I forgot my wedding ring so I called Cletus Simpson and he said he would go by my apartment and pick up the ring. I was living at 1130 Schaub Drive Apt I in Raleigh at the time. My Mom, Dad, Ellie and her family came down from Waynesville along with Aunt Kathy. We had many friends coming to the sealing and Lamont Council, Cletus Simpson and Paul Stevens were my best men. We really don't have anything like that in the wedding ceremony in the Temple but they were my best men for pictures, etc. Krissy's brothers and sister came as well as her parents. Melissa Montoya, one of Krissy's best friends from college also flew out for the wedding.
The sealing was obviously a very special event. At this point we unfortunately do not remember much of what the sealer said, but we do remember that he encouraged us to study The Family: A Proclamation to the World often. Of course I was nervous and so was Krissy, but it was nice being in the Temple surrounded by close friends and family. After the sealing, we took pictures with everyone and then got some pictures by ourselves around the Temple. We then went to a different location with a barn and field in Apex to take some more pictures. The photographer then wanted to go somewhere else but we had a luncheon with our close friends at the institute building.
Our families and close friends met at the institute building on the campus of NC State and we had ordered some food from the Olive Garden. It was a great lunch and I had Cletus, Lamont and Paul say something. Kelley said something as well as Scott Smith, Sr. We remember him telling everyone that Wade was one of the most persistent and patient people he had ever known, but that Krissy was well worth the wait. Julie Howington, a close friend to both of us, also said a few words. It was a fun time to be able to spend visiting, which there isn't really time for at the temple.
We had a little time between the luncheon and the reception so we went back to Krissy's house with her family to help get ready for the reception. The reception was held that evening (7:00?) at Dawnna and Miguel Guerra's house/mansion (1012 Holt Rd. Apex, NC). The were so kind to let us have it there for free! And the best part is that it was already decorated for Christmas, so win win for us. We rented a limo to transport people from a nearby school or guests also had the option to take a candle-lit trail to the house. We got food catered from Harris Teeter and cakes from The Square Rabbit which was a bit hit. We also had doughnut holes and hot chocolate but we didn't get to enjoy the food because we were busy welcoming all of our guests who came to the reception. We had a really good turn-out considering it was December 28th. Of course some of our good friends were traveling for Christmas but we still had a full house.
The reception ended around 9PM and Paul Stevens and some other friends had decorated my Mustang with "Just Married" paraphernalia and excitedly drove off. We stayed at the Marriott hotel in North Hills mall and let's just say the things they say about the wedding night are totally lies :)! We were like most couples who wait until they get married, but it was worth it.
We had to get up early the next day to fly to Albany, NY for the start of our Honeymoon at Lake Placid, NY. We had one layover and as luck would have it when we were about to get on the airplane to fly to Lake Placid, NY we were told because of the weather that there was a weight limit for the airplane so we could not get on......was that a fat joke?!?! Anyway, we were bumped for the next flight which didn't take off for like another 5 or 6 hours so we spend out first day married pretty much in the airport. On a positive note we did find the show "Once Upon A Time" on NetFlix and started watching that. We also were reading a Dave Ramsey book that we got for a wedding present. We finally boarded the plane and made it to Albany. We rented a car and made it to our hotel for the night. It was cool to see the snow everywhere. We got up Sunday morning and found the local ward to attend Church and after Church we started to drive to Lake Placid, NY. We were staying at Mirror Lake Inn and it was beautiful. We had a great time there and did some things like going to the spa to get a massage, going snow shoeing and skiing. It was a great place but so cold so every time we went outside we had to bundle up. We stayed in Lake Placid for I think 4 days and then flew back to Raleigh, NC. We then drove to Waynesville, NC to have a ring ceremony so that my family could attend. We had it at the Waynesville Church building and it was a nice ceremony. I had Bishop Ron Phillips talk as he was the Bishop of the ward when I first became a member of the ward. He was the Bishop when I went on my mission and was the person that gave me the Melchezidek Priesthood on July 4, 1999. I am glad he was able to do it.
